일본어에 혼용된 도래어(渡來語)

Korean words mingled in Japanese

Japan and Korea are very near to each other. In ancient times a lot of people came from Korea to Japan. They brought many words including place names with them and the Japanese people still use these words. This article is about those words in the Japanese language brought by people who had come from ancient Korea and about the studies of the Korean language by Arai Hakuseki and Amenomori Hoshu. I think that Katakana was made in co-operation with those people from Korea by using the method of borrowing Chinese characters known as Yidu or Kugyol. Many of the writers of Manyoshu are considered to be people from Korea and Manyogana could also be made by the method known as Hyangchal.
