유형별 어휘를 중심으로 한 어휘 교재 개발 방안 연구

A Study to Develop a Korean Vocabulary Text Book with Focusing on Vocabulary Groups

This paper purposes to present an approaching method to develop a Korean Vocabulary Text Book with Focusing on Vocabulary Groups at a middle-higher level. Vocabularies to be covered in a Korean vocabulary text for foreigners are screened from those published in Korean Language Proficiency Tests and from those appeared in Korean Language Text Books published by many university presses. They are grouped together by considering their meanings into synonyms, antonyms and polysemys, by considering their specific usages into collocations, idiomatic phrases, proverbs and Chinese character phrases, and by considering their origins into prefixes, suffixes, onomatopoeic words, mimetic words and those originated from foreign languages. Typical words belonging to each groups are listed in a table. Synonyms, antonyms, polysemys, collocations and prefixes and suffixes can be presented by the basic approaching method which includes the steps of 1) explanation of the meaning of a vocabulary, 2) examples of its usage, 3) quizzes, and 4) exercises, but vocabularies belonging to the groups of idiomatic phrases, proverbs, Chinese character phrases, onomatopoeic words or mimetic words and vocabularies originated from foreign languages may be best explained by the question-answer method which includes the steps of 1) asking students to guess the meaning of a vocabulary in a sentence, 2) checking its correct meanings from a dictionary, 3) drilling its usage by asking students to select the right vocabulary to fit into a sentence, 4) confirming their understandings with quizzes.
