한일 한자의 음과 의미에 관한 연구

A Study of Phonetic Sound and Meaning of Sino-KoreanSino-Japanese

The aim of this paper is to compare the phonetic characteristics and meaning of Sino-Korean with those of Sino-Japanese. This paper is divided into two parts; one is the phonetic relation of consonants and vowels of Sino-Korean and Sino-Japanese, the other is the semantic relation of them. In terms of phonetic relation, Korean /ㅂ/ and /ㅍ/ coresponds to Japanese ‘は’ row, /ㅎ/ to ‘か’ row. In considering the semantic relation between the two languages, three different types are considered with actual examples; the same words(same letters, same meaning, e.g. 歌曲, 落書, 事件), homonyms(same letters, different meaning, e.g. 家: inside of house/wife, 工夫: to study/make a good idea), and synonyms(different letters, same meaning, e.g. 交通費/足代, 感/風邪, 衣/下着). In the case of the first category, two syllable words are outstanding. In the case of homonyms, direct translations were more common in Korean, whereas most words seemed to be meaning based translations for Japanese.According to the viewpoints of comparative and contrastive linguistics, Sino-Korean and Sino-Japanese are similar to each other due to the similarities of orientalism. In the future, it would be nice to see the new framework of comparative and contrastive linguistics by vigorous researches of this field.
