그림 Stroop 과제에 나타난 조선족 고등학생의 한글 및한자어 처리에 관한 연구

A Study on Korean- Chinese Bilinguals' Performance in Picture-word(L1 or L2) Stroop tasks: Comparisons with that of Chinese and Korean students

This study looked at the similarities and differences in L1 and L2 processing of Korean-Chinese bilinguals in Shenyang comparing with Chinese in Shenyang and Korean monolinguals in Korea. Korean-Chinese(n=34), Chinese(n=32), Korean(n=33) high school students participated in an experiment with Picture-letter Stroop-like tasks similar to that of Rosinski.(1977). Tasks were composed of 225 trials of Stroop-like tasks with 30 trials of each for picture-same meaning Chinese(or Korean) tasks, picture-same sound Chinese tasks, and control tasks(picture, Chinese or Korean) tasks. There were no significant differences among groups in control tasks, therefore suggesting these stimuli are compatible among groups. There were main effects of the condition(F(1, 65)=73.24, p <.00) and the group(F(1, 65)=12.68, p<.01) and an interaction between the condition and the group (F(1, 65)=13.27, p<.01).Both Korean and Korean-Chinese students showed faster RT’s in the same meaning condition compared with the control condition. However, as revealed by the interaction effect, Korean-Chinese showed even greater facilitation(shorter RT’). This was interpreted as Korean-Chinese have more advantages of semantics than Korean counterparts and this advantage is due to the use of semantic symbols of Chinese. There were very similar performances between Korean-Chinese and Chinese revealing no difference between these groups among all conditions. Therefore these Korean- Chinese can be regarded as having true horizontal bilingualism.
