Studies of the Acquisition “Copula” in Spanish

This paper's goal is to suggest a revised analysis of the acquisition SER/TENER in Spanish. As be concerned, the distinction between the copulas to the korean students has been considered very difficult. Respect to this aspect, I propose that SER/TENER in Spanish must be redefined. In generative grammar, the constructions of possessives have been analysed from various points of view (cf. Freeze, 1992, Den Dikken, 1995, Bennis, Cover & Den Dikken, 1996). But studies of the above-mentioned constructions based on the comparison with the constructions of possessives in Spanish are rare. In this paper, we suggest a re-analysis of the constructions with TENER/DE in Spanish. In relation to this view, we propose that the possessive constructions must be distinguished from the existential constructions. To addition, we propose that the verbs TENER/DE are derived from the same construction. With respect to the preposition DE, we argue that the DE is derived from the possessive constructions with TENER as a copula. The difference between the two constructions (TENER/DE) is based on the properties of the predication. From this view, we intend to analyse the various constructions with DE in Spanish.
