College Life Experiences and Support Needs of College Students with Developmental Disabilities

연구목적: 본 연구는 발달장애 대학생들이 대학생활 속에서 느끼는 경험에 중점을 두고, 대학생활 속에서 어떤 경험을 하는지와 발달장애 대학생들이 필요로 하는 지원 요구를 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 일반대학교에 재학 중인 발달장애 대학생 5명을 대상으로 면담을 실시하였으며, 면담 내용을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 연구결과: 첫째, 발달장애 대학생들은 자신의 선택에 의해 또는 부모님이나 주변인의 권유로 대학에 진학을 하게 되었으며, 공통적으로 보다 좋은 곳에 취업하기 위해 대학에 진학한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 발달장애 대학생들은 대학생이 되어 다양한 경험을 하게 되었고, 대학생이 되면서 나타난 변화들로 인해 달라진 자신의 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 발달장애 대학생들은 대학생활을 하면서 즐거움뿐만 아니라 학업, 새로운 제도, 동아리활동, 대인관계에서 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 넷째, 발달장애 대학생들은 대학생활을 하면서 어려움을 경험하였지만 노력을 통해 어려움을 극복하려고 하였다. 결론: 발달장애 대학생들은 본인뿐만 아니라 나와 같이 장애를 가진 친구들에게 필요하거나 개선되기를 바라는 학업, 생활, 대인관계에서의 지원을 요구하였다.

Purpose: This study investigated the experiences that college students with developmental disabilities felt in college life, and aimed to find out what they experienced in college life and the support needs of college students with developmental disabilities. Method: Five college students with developmental disabilities attending general universities participated in the interviews, and the results of the study were as follows. Results: First, it turned out that college students with developmental disabilities went to college at their own choice or at the recommendation of their parents or neighbors, and in common, went to college to get a better job. Second, college students with developmental disabilities had various experiences as college students, and they were able to see themselves changed due to the changes that occurred when they became college students. Third, college students with developmental disabilities were having difficulties in their studies, new systems, club activities, and interpersonal relationships as well as in their college life. Fourth, college students with developmental disabilities experienced difficulties during their college life, but tried to overcome them through their efforts. Conclusion: College students with developmental disabilities asked not only themselves but also their friends with disabilities for support in their studies, life, and interpersonal relationships that they want to improve.
