Empirical Exploration of Participation in Volunteer and Charitable Organizations: Focusing on Interaction Effect between Perceptions of Welfare and Social Fairness

본 연구는 개인이 지각하는 복지인식과 공정성 인식이 자원봉사 또는 기부단체 참여 수준에 미치는 영향력을 살피는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 한국행정연구원의 ‘2021 사회통합실태조사’ 자료를 활용하여 순위형 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 복지인식은 성장과 분배에 대한 가치, 선별적 복지를 위한 추가 납세 의향, 타인의 복지를 위한 개인의 책임성으로, 공정성 인식은 사회 전반의 공정성 인식으로 살펴보았다. 복지인식과 사회 전반의 공정성 인식 간 상호작용효과에 대한 분석결과, 성장과 분배에 대한 가치와 추가 납세 의향은 자원봉사 또는 기부단체 참여 수준에 정적 방향으로의 결합효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 일반 시민 개인의 복지와 사회적 공정성에 대한 인식에 주목하여 이들을 포괄적으로 분석함으로써 나눔 행동에 대한 영향을 다각적으로 살폈다. 특히 사회의 공정성에 대한 인식이 어떠한지에 따라 개인의 자발적 나눔 행동의 참여 수준이 달라질 수 있는지를 밝힘으로써 나눔 행동에 대한 이해를 심화하고 확장하였다는 데 연구의 의미가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of individual perceptions regarding welfare and social fairness on the level of participation in philanthropic organizations. To this end, an ordered logistic regression was utilized using the data from Social Integration Survey 2021. Perception of welfare was examined with values for growth or distribution, paying additional taxes voluntarily for selective welfare, and citizens' responsibility for other people's welfare. Perception of fairness was examined with the general fairness perception in society. As a result of the analysis, values for growth and distribution, and paying additional taxes voluntarily for selective welfare had a positive interaction effect with general fairness in society on the level of participation in philanthropic organizations. By comprehensively analyzing individual citizens' perceptions regarding welfare and social fairness, this study examined the influence of philanthropic behavior in various ways. In particular, this study is meaningful in that it deepened and expanded the understanding of philanthropic behaviors by revealing whether the level of participation in individual voluntary philanthropic behavior can vary depending on the perception of social fairness.
