과학영재의 진로선택 어려움에 관한 질적연구

Qualitative Research for Career Choice Difficulties of Gifted Students in Science

본 연구는 과학영재의 진로선택 어려움을 질적으로 분석하여 이들이 자신의 재능과 적성이 나타나는 분야에서 전문가로 성장할 수 있도록 교육적 시사점을 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 부산 소재 과학고등학교에 재학 중이거나 과학영재캠프에 참여한 21명의 학생들을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하여 그 자료를 질적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 과학영재의 진로선택에 어려움을 주는 내적요인은 크게 내적요인과 외적요인으로 구분되어 나타났으며, 내적요인으로는 직업과 관련된 자아 정체감 부재, 과학에 치중된 관심, 실패에 대한 두려움, 저성취로 인한 또래에 대한 열등감이 있었다. 한편, 과학영재의 진로선택에 대한 어려움의 외적요인은 진로선택 시 부모의 판단에 의지, 멘토의 부재, 이공계 기피의 사회적 분위기에 관한 것이었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 과학영재의 흥미와 적성을 살려 줄 수 있는 방안으로 전문적이고 체계적인 진로상담 및 조기 진로교육 프로그램 운영, 또래 멘토제도 활용 등을 제안하였다.

The study aimed to observe the career choice of science gifted students and to offer ideas into career guides to help them build career path. For this, the main research method was used by qualitative research. The participants for the research were 21 who were enrolled in science school and science education program for the gifted. Each students were taken in-depth interview and were recorded. The research found that the significant difficulties affecting gifted students career choice were divided two crucial factors, inter and outer ones. Inter factors of career choice difficulties were absence of identity, biased interest into science, phobia to be failed, under-achievement compared to the peer. And outer factors of career choice difficulties were over dependency to their parents will, absence of mentor, social atmosphere of not preferring natural science and engineering. Consequently, for desirable career choice, more focuses should be on their attitude toward science and provide systematic career counseling, early career education, and mentor systems etc.
