농인의 농문화에 대한 태도와 스트레스, 삶의 만족도와의 관계

The Relationship among Attitudes towards Deaf Culture, Stress and Life Satisfaction of People with Deafness

본 연구의 목적은 일반인의 농인문화에 대한 이해를 돕기 위하여, 농인을 대상으로 설문조사를 하여 농인의 농문화에 대한 태도와 스트레스, 삶의 만족도 정도를 그들의 배경변인별로 알아보고, 농문화에 대한 태도와 스트레스, 삶의 만족도간의 관계를 알아보았다. 이를 바탕으로 농인문화에 대한 이해를 통해 다문화 사회로 되어가는 한국사회의 문화융합정책의 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 경상남도에 거주하면서 경남농아인협회 및 지역별 지부에 소속된 20세 이상의 성인 남녀를 대상으로 하였다. 설문 조사결과, 한국 사회의 농인들은 그들만의 농문화를 형성하고 있었으나 건청인과 어울려 사회생활을 하기 위해 필요한 시설이 부족하며, 건청인이 농인을 무시하고 부정적인 인식을 가지는데서 오는 스트레스를 많이 받고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 농인들의 삶의 만족도는 긍정적이었고, 건강과 친구, 가족으로 인해 삶의 만족도를 많이 느끼는 것을 알 수 있었다. 농문화 태도와 삶의 만족도가 정적인 상관을 보여 농인이 농인으로써의 정체성을 가질 때 삶의 만족도가 높다는 것을 알 수 있었지만 스트레스는 삶의 만족도와 유의한 상관성을 보이지 않았는데, 이것은 농인의 스트레스가 주로 일반인과의 접촉에서 연유되는 경우가 많으나, 농인들이 주로 농인과의 접촉을 주로 하며, 건청인과의 접촉을 꺼리기 때문에 스트레스와 삶의 만족도가 상관성이 없는 것으로 볼 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship among the deaf's attitude to their culture, social stress and life satisfaction level in a bid to get a better understanding of deaf culture. The subjects in this study were deaf people who registered with the Associations for the Deaf in different regions including south Gyeong- sang province. After a survey was conducted, the following findings were given: First, the deaf people investigated took a positive attitude to deaf culture. They took the best pride in sign language, and they were proud of deaf culture and their own life as well. Second, the deaf people suffered a lot of stress in daily routine life. In other words, everyday life put a heavy pressure on the deaf people in Korean society. There weren't plenty of facilities that enabled them to mingle with non-deaf people, and they were stressed out as people in general disregarded them and looked at them in an unfavorable way. Given the fact that tolerance was one of the prerequisites for a sound society, people in general needed a change of mind-set. Third, the deaf viewed their own life satisfaction level favorably. They were especially contented due to their health, friends and families. Fourth, there was a positive correlation between their attitude to deaf culture and life satisfaction level, which implied that deaf people could be more pleased with their life when they have an identity as a deaf person. But no significant correlation was found between their stress and life satisfaction level.
