미국 Gallaudet University에 유학 중인 한국 농학생의 한국 농교육에 대한 인식 연구

The Study on Perception with Deaf Education in Korea of the Korean Deaf Students Who Are Studying at Gallaudet University

세계에서 유일한 농종합대학교인 미국의 Gallaudet University에는 현재 한국의 농대학생 4명이 재학하고 있다. 한국 농교육에 대한 인식을 알아보기 위하여 개인과 집단별 면담방법으로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 참여자가 제시한 결과에서 제시된 한국 농교육의 근본적인 문제점은 농학교에 재직하고 있는 교사의 수어에 대한 이해 부족으로 인한 의사소통의 어려움에 있었다. 그리고 한국수어에 대한 언어학적 연구의 필요성, 농학교에 농인교사의 배치에 대한 강한 욕구, 농사회의 농학교 교육과정 편성 및 운영에 대한 참여의 필요성, 그리고 세계화를 대비한 미국수어 교육의 현실성 등을 제시하였다. 연구 참여자는 유학 후에 귀국하여 한국 농교육의 발전을 위해 노력하고 싶다는 의욕을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception with deaf education in South Korea of the Korean deaf students who are studying at Gallaudet University, Washington DC, USA, which is a unique university for the deaf in the world. Four Korean deaf students, three male junior and one female male, were participated for this study. Individual and group interviews were utilized for this study. The results of this study were that: (a) the problems of the Korean deaf education are the limitation of the hearing teachers' understanding to deaf students, the lags of the sign language skills, the limitation of the curriculums of the Universities which have the department of the pre teacher education for special educator, and emphases on oral teaching; (b) the needs to develop Korean deaf education are linguistic study on Korean Sign Language, deaf teachers and hearing teachers are the level of 50 : 50, inter-understanding with hearing society and deaf society, and participation of the deaf community to deaf education; and (c) the most important factor for globalization in deaf education is to open the American Sign Language classes. They would like to make contribution to improve the quality of the deaf education in South Korea.
