A Comparative Study on Advanced Korean Textbooks in China

This study aims to examine the overall development of advanced Korean textbooks in China over 20 years using a comparative analysis method. To this end, four representative textbooks were selected from the ten advanced Korean textbooks developed by Chinese professors from 2002 to 2022, and nine goals of advanced Korean education in China were established. Next, the evaluation criteria and items for advanced Korean textbooks that can realize the educational philosophy and talent cultivation goals of Chinese universities were formulated, and a detailed comparative analysis was conducted based on the six criteria of textbook evaluations: external compositions, internal elements, textual contents, language elements, learning activities, and evaluations. Finally, based on the analysis results, the changes and developments of advanced Korean textbooks in China in terms of teaching philosophy, teaching purpose, teaching content, teaching syllabus, and teaching method were revealed, and implications for future textbook development were provided. This study is significant in that it establishes the goals of teaching advanced Korean in China; furthermore, it summarizes the evaluation criteria and detailed items of advanced Korean textbooks in China.
