The purpose of this paper is to describe a particular approach to teaching learning strategies to students with learning disabilities. To that end, general learning characteristics of these students and how these characteristics inhibit independent learning will be discussed. Several content and design components of these strategies as well as general instructional considerations about how these strategies need to be taught will be described in order for students with learning disabilities to acquire and generalize their use. Because most of the research in the area of learning strategies instruction has been with adolescents, the last part of this paper will present a set of modifications, both in content and instruction. Some examples were also demonstrated.
