This study conducted interviews with five bilingual revisers and one project manager in an effort to better understand the job of bilingual revisers, in terms of their roles, competences, communication with translators, working conditions, and job satisfaction. The results showed that they play a role in assessing translators, with in-house revisers more likely to take on a wider range of roles; they work in close communication with translators through project managers, but their feedbacks are not necessarily delivered to translators; the ability to understand the source text is a must for bilingual revisers and the ability to write well in the target language and to identify errors in the translated text is most stressed, whereas interpersonal skills are considered less important; translation experience is helpful for bilingual revisers, although revision experience and subject knowledge are more essential; and working as revisers appears less stressful and more encouraging than working as translators but bad quality of translation, low pay, and repetitive tasks are mentioned as main difficulties. This study sheds light on the work experience of bilingual revisers, calling attention to occupational aspects of revisers in the changing translation industry.
