Medical Support Analysis of Korean Medicine Center in 2023 Saemangeum 25th World Scout Jamboree

Objectives The 25th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) took place in Saemangeum, Korea in 2023, featuring the operation of a Korean Medicine Center that provided medical treatment services to staff. This study aims to analyze the Korean medicine medical support's content and propose potential applications for the future. Methods The Korean Medicine Center operated from 7 am to 10 pm. A total of 82 Korean Medicine Doctors and 77 Korean Medicine students, including those who underwent pre-education, applied and participated in treatment alternately. Medical records were compiled from August 1st to the morning of August 8th during the WSJ camp period. Results Over the eight days, 1,093 individuals from 77 countries visited the center, resulting in 1,758 medical treatments. Notably, 46% of the visitors were in their 20s, and 91% were International Service Team operators. Musculoskeletal injuries, particularly in the cervical spine (26%) and lumbar spine (26%), accounted for 82% of cases. Treatment predominantly involved acupuncture and cupping. The satisfaction level for herbal medicine provided for heat-related illnesses was notably high. Conclusions This study marks the inaugural documentation of Korean Medicine treatment at the WSJ, affirming the effectiveness of Korean Medicine medical support.
