근대 합리적 이성론은 어떻게 발달장애인을 우리 사회에서 주변화시켰는가?

How did modern rational reason marginalize people with developmental disabilities in our society?

이 연구는 근대적 이성의 작동방식이 어떻게 발달장애인을 주변화하는지에 대하여 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 근대적 이성 개념인 합리적 이성이 형성되는 과정을 살펴보고, 발달장애인에게 어떻게 부정적으로 작동하는지 살펴보았다. 비판적 문헌 고찰을 통해 근대적 이성은 동일성 강조, 실증주의적 접근, 몸의 배제, 도덕적 능력과 자율성의 추구라는 방식으로 작동하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 동일성의 강조는 표준화의 시선을 통해 동일성에서 벗어나는 집단을 ‘장애’라는 개념에 묶고 차이를 부정하며, 발달장애인을 열등한 존재로 만들었다. 과학의 발달에 따른 실증주의는 측정과 과학적 검사를 통해 발달장애인의 결핍을 강조하는 것으로 나타났다. 또 몸을 배제한 근대적 이성은 발달장애인의 행위 언어를 문제행동이라는 부정적 인식으로 바라보았다. 도덕적 능력과 자율성의 강조는 발달장애인을 미성숙한 아이와 같은 존재로 인식하였고, 후견제도를 통해 다른 사람이 발달장애인을 통제하게 하였다. 이에 따라 이와 같은 문제점을 극복하기 위해 마페졸리의 ‘감성적 이성’ 개념으로 발달장애인의 이성을 이해할 것을 제안하였다. 마페졸리의 ‘감성적 이성’은 발달장애인을 있는 그대로의 존재로서 바라보게 하고, 자신의 정서와 감정을 존중받는, 현재를 살아가는 생동감 있는 인간으로 인식할 수 있게 한다.

This study examines how modern reason works to marginalize people with developmental disabilities. To this end, we looked at how modern rational reason operates negatively on people with developmental disabilities through a critical literature review. Modern rational reason's emphasis on sameness tied groups that deviate from sameness to the concept of 'disability' through the gaze of standardization, denied differences, and made people with developmental disabilities inferior. Positivism, which follows the development of science, has been shown to emphasize the deficiencies of people with developmental disabilities through measurement and scientific testing. In addition, modern rationality, excluding the body, viewed the behavioral language of people with developmental disabilities negatively as problematic behavior. The emphasis on moral ability and autonomy recognized the developmentally disabled as being like immature children, and allowed others to control the developmentally disabled through the guardianship system. Accordingly, to overcome these problems, it was proposed to recognize difference as a horizontal difference, recognize subjectivity as a human being with reason and a body, introduce a supported decision-making system, and expand the concept of reason such as Maffezzoli's ‘emotional reason’.
