AI 시대 영문법 교육의 방향성과 AI와의 연계성 탐색

English grammar and AI: An exploration of directionality and associations

This study explores two questions: How should English grammar education evolve in the age of AI? How should English grammar and AI be coupled in the age of AI? As a possible answer to the first question, it proposes that English grammar education should evolve from the knowledgeization of grammatical rules related to S(small)-grammar to the intuitionization of grammatical systems related to L(large)-grammar. In alignment with this, it suggests a kind of linguistic intuition on tense/aspect systems: tense system has ‘factuality with the semantic feature [+fact] ,’ progressive aspect has ‘ongoingness with the feature [+ongoing],’ and perfect aspect has ‘relevance with the feature [+relevant] ’. This will allow learners to discern the differences and contrasts between the tense/aspect systems, thereby developing their own ‘feel’ for each grammatical system in terms of when and why to choose which tense or aspect in actual language use. For the second question, it suggests coupling the knowledgeization of grammatical rules with AI and decoupling the intuitionization of grammatical systems from AI, in light of the possibility of AI replacing the teaching of English grammar, as well as learners’ over-reliance on AI and the risk of AI-induced hallucinations resulting in incorrect information.
