This study examines the differences in Voice Onset Time (VOT) of English voiceless stops between two groups of Korean English learners based on their language identity and sociocultural identity, compared to native English speakers. A total of 20 Korean English learners and 10 native English speakers participated. Korean English learners completed a questionnaire to measure their language identity and sociocultural identity, and recorded English voiceless stops words for VOT measurement. Native English speakers also recorded the same words for comparison. One-way ANOVA was conducted to investigate the differences in VOT of English voiceless stops among the three groups. The results showed that for voiceless stops /p/, /t/, k/ followed by voiceless stops /p/, /t/, k/ preceded by /s/, Korean English learners with a high English identity exhibited VOT values similar to native speakers, while learners with a low English identity showed significant differences from native speakers. Additionally, multiple regression analysis revealed that 'age' emerged as a significant factor influencing the English identity of Korean English learners. The findings suggest that English identity may influence the VOT differences in English voiceless stops between Korean English learners and native English speakers, contributing to a better understanding of pronunciation variations among English learners.
