This paper begins with the reflection that philosophy of education is still unfamiliar and unclear from an outsider’s point of view, and that some topics are difficult to explain even in the eyes of the philosophers themselves. To this end, this study delves into the research methods of philosophy of education. Regarding the nature and position of research methods in philosophy of education, the researcher draws upon personal experience, university dissertations, and previous studies, elucidating the characteristics and weaknesses of each approach. A comprehensive conclusion derived from this review is that the fundamental activity of philosophy of education lies in constructing arguments that contribute to educational discourses. Under the basic principle of constructing arguments, three challenges are proposed for refining research methods of philosophy of education
