본고는 癸酉靖難이 발발하자 벼슬을 버리고 朴儒山에 들어가 평생 ‘不事二君’의 節義를 실천했던 孤隱 李智活에 대해 살펴보았다. 현재 그의 시문이 별로 남아 있지 않아 그의 사상과 문학적 성취를 정치하게 분석할 수 없는 점이 아쉽지만, 그가 남긴 두 편의 시와 散見되어 있는 후대 문인들의 기록만으로도 이지활이 추구했던 절의의 정신을 충분히 확인할 수 있었다. 이지활의 이러한 정신은 이익과 의로움이란 선택의 갈림길에 놓였을 때 ‘是非’와 ‘善惡’의 가치를 판단하고 ‘善’을 실천하고자 하는 의지를 堅持하는 이정표 역할을 할 수 있다는 점에서 현대에도 중요한 가치를 지닌다.
This paper looked at Lee Ji-hwal, who abandoned his government post during the “Gyeyujeongnan” and entered in Park Yu-san Mountain and practiced the fidelity of “not serving two kings” throughout his life. It is regrettable that his thoughts and literary achievements cannot be analyzed in detail because there are not many poems left, but the records of later writers, which are scattered with the two poems he left behind, fully confirmed the spirit of the fidelity Lee Ji-hwal pursued. Lee Ji-hwal's spirit is also important to modern times in that it can serve as a milestone in determining the value of “right and wrong” and “virtue and vice” and maintaining the will to practice “virtue” at the crossroads of profit and righteousness.
