This study assesses the relationship between state-owned enterprises and welfare regime types across 36 countries, categorizing them into four distinct clusters. Based on an analysis of prevalence, sectoral presence, employment ratio, and economic impact of state-owned enterprises, this study proposes that a relationship exists, to an extent, between welfare regime type and the size of the state-owned enterprise sector. This study’s findings contribute to the field by offering new insights into the relationship between the welfare regime and the state-owned enterprise sector. This creates a platform for more nuanced explorations of this relationship.
