An Exploratory Study on the Meaning of the Basic Income Pilot Project in Rural Areas in Gyeonggi

This study was conducted to explore for the meaning of the Gyeonggi Province Rural Basic Income pilot project, which has being carried out for the purpose of revitalizing rural areas that was in danger of population extinction. Gyeonggi Province Rural Basic Income pilot project is a model example of universal basic income(UBI) that provides basic income regardless of each individual's gender, income, and occupation. In addition, this pilot project is a social experiment study that is assumed to derive various policy effects as follows. Firstly, the study looked at the characteristics of the rural basic income project and summarized the major controversies related to universal basic income. Secondly, it discussed the differences and justifications between the rural basic income and existing basic income programs. Thirdly, the prospects and direction of rural basic income were discussed.
