선(line)과 원자론(atomism)의 서사적 다양성에 대하여

On the conceptual diversity of the line considered through Epicurean Atomism

본 논문은 절충주의의 관행을 비판하기 위한 선행작업으로서 데모크리토스와 에피쿠로스의 원자론을 분석하고 그 결과의 적용 사례로써 ‘선(線)’의 공리가 지닌 내적모순구조와 그에 따른 서사적 다양성을 밝혀내어 사유의 자율성을 부각하는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해서 여기에서는 원자론이 언급하는 편위와 원자를 선과 점의 관계에 대입함으로써 선의 공리가 조성하고 있는 단선적인 인과관계에서 벗어나면 발견하게 될 다양한 의미들을 추출하는데 일차적인 목표를 둔다. 이를 위해서 칼 맑스가 설명하는 에피쿠로스의 원자론을 주로 적용하여 ‘내적 모순구조의 자각’의 증언을 서사적 개념의 다양성 사례로 제시하고 결과적으로 그 모순구조가 어떻게 서사적 다양성으로 나타나는지 고찰한다. 이로써 이 글에서 다루는 원자의 개념과 선의 다양성(pollachos)은 ‘내적 모순구조’의 자각과 ‘보편성의 절대적 힘에 저항’하는 일로써 확보될 수 있음을 밝히고자 한다. 이 시도는 서사적 다양성을 담보하는 모순적 관계의 파악이야말로 창의적인 서사의 출발점이며 사유의 자율성을 실현하는 원동력임을 보여준다.

As a preceding work to criticize the practice of eclecticism caused by the definition of line, this article aims to reveal the internal contradictory structure and conceptual diversity of 'the line'. Above all, I want to set the primary goal of extracting various meanings that will be discovered if we break away from the unilinear causal relationship created by lines and dots. To this end, this paper applies the natural philosophy of Epicurus as explained by Karl Marx to identify the meaning and value of 'awareness of internal contradiction', and further examines the certainty within myself and the fate of ataraxia. In this way, the diversity of lines dealt with in this paper will reveal the internal conflict of the definition of lines and at the same time show that ‘resistance to the absolute power of universality’ is a driving force for self-confidence in the era of great digital transformation.
