A Study on Kim Ki-Rim's Literature Theory of Lee Sang

본고는 김기림 이상론의 변모 양상을 살피고 그 의의를 밝히고자 한 논문이다. 김기림은 1934년 ｢현대시의 발전｣에서 처음 이상을 거론하였다. 이 글에서 김기림은 당시 한국 현대시의 난해성이 초현실주의의 수용과 관련이 있다고 보고, 초현실주의자로 이해한 이상의 시를 가장 먼저 비평하였다. 김기림은 현대시의 발전을 위해 초현실주의를 방법론을 계승하자고 하면서도 이상의 <운동>에서 시적 언어의 질서와 의미, 명랑성 등을 읽어내었다. 1935년 이후 김기림은 이상이 <위독>에서 적절한 현대의 진단서를 썼고, 시대의 우울을 표현하였다고 하였다. 당시 유토피아의 지향을 지니고 있었던 김기림은 이상의 우울 속에서 유토피아의 지향을 발견하였다. 1930년대 말 김기림은 유토피아의 방향을 “모더니즘의 초극”으로 구체화하면서 이상을 내세웠고, 이상을 유토피아를 꿈꾼 비극의 신으로 이해하였다. 해방 후 김기림은 이상의 인간적인 모습을 다양하게 드러내고 그를 “나르시쓰”로 회고하였다. 또한 이상의 현실에 대한 태도를 중심으로 그의 문학을 비평하면서, 이상이 현실에 “서늘함”의 태도를 지녔고, 현실에 대한 “철저성”으로 현실을 깊이 해부하였다고 하였다. 또 이상은 원래 “나르시쓰”였으나 속악한 현실에 대응하면서 점차 순교자로, 청교도로 나아갔다고 하였다.

In this paper, I tried to examine the Kim Ki-rim’s literature theory of Lee Sang and clarify its significance. Kim Ki-rim first discussed Lee Sang in “The Development of Modern Poetry” in 1934. In this article, Kim Ki-rim suggested that modern Korean poetry should inherit surrealism, and he listened to the above <Movement> as a representative example. In <Movement>, Kim Ki-rim paid attention to the methodology of surrealism, especially the combination of language, not the spirit of surrealism. In the late 1930s, Kim Ki-rim tried to read the spirit of the times in Lee Sang’ poetry that revealed the modern crisis. This was related to the fact that Kim Ki-rim had a utopian orientation. Kim Ki-rim said that Lee Sang wrote an appropriate modern medical certificate in <Widok>. Lee Sang was called “Jupiter” and “Jesus” as the hero who dreamed of utopia. At the end of the 1930s, Kim Ki-rim emphasized “the overcome of modernism” and brought Lee Sang to the fore. After Liberation period, Kim Ki-rim did not compare Lee Sang to a god or a hero, but called it “an asylum in life” and “Narcissus”. Kim Ki-rim paid attention to the attitude toward the reality and said that Lee Sang has “indifference” and “shame”. Kim Ki-rim discussed the literature focusing on Lee Sang’ novels. Kim Ki-rim said that Lee Sang was originally “Narcissus”, but he gradually became a martyr and a puritan in reality.
