A Study on Youtube-History-Documentary: Focusing on Hundred Years’ War in Korea,

In November 26th, 2012, Institute for Research in Collaborationist Activities has released documentary Hundred Years’ War in Korea through Youtube site. After releasing the documentary produced by four documentary makers for a year, heated dispute has been risen among scholars, media and netizen. Controversy around Hundred Years’ War in Korea has become a social big issue with Korean presidential election in December, 2012. After then, Society of the Propagation of Ideology for Founding Nation and New Daily-Syngman Rhee Forum have brought out documentary The Way of Life which has been produced to be opposed to Hundred Years’ War in Korea in March, 2013 through Youtube, too. Hundred Years’ War in Korea and The Way of Life have recorded enormous views in a short term and have drawn concerns from people with interest on Korean modern times. This article analyses documentary Hundred Years’ War in Korea, and tries to search for meanings of this documentary in terms of a documentary form and content. Also, this study diagnoses the possibility of documentary in the age of Youtube with this documentary which uses Youtube as new platform for documentary and attempt enlargements of persuasive documentary. Significance of this study is to inquire into new documentary style which has been vitalized by new platform for distribution in the digital era, and explore its consequential meaning in the documentary history. This article also investigates interactive effects among the work and audience occurred from digital media.
