What is the definition of plagiarism in a film that narrates a story with nonliteral language? How do you differentiate between creation and crib?This study is a search for the clues of how we approach film plagiarism by delving into the essence of the film not from the standpoint of a jurist but a film producer. Most films are centered around the narration by which many audiences are also entertained the most. When filmmakers accuse other filmmakers of committing plagiarism, it means that they claim the stories are similar to or same as theirs. Are they really similar stories? Furthermore, do similar stories mean similar films?This article searches for the planning, the development, the characteristics,the components of scenarios and the methods of storytelling in a film to comprehend the essence of a film. After that, in terms of materials, themes,stories, plots, characters and relationships, two example movies are compared and analyzed: a korean film <Masquerade>(2012), hollywood film <Dave>(1993). Finally it analyzes the issues of the plagiarism controversy closely focusing on <Masquerade>. Each film has the own creative methods and modes of expressions for storytelling. A cautious approach is needed when we discuss plagiarism.
