This study examines how byeonsa’s performance of voice in the era of silent film is readopted in the narration style in contemporary television programs of film introduction such as <Go, Video Trip>(MBC). This study also elucidates by textual analysis how both byeonsa and the narration style of those programs lower the cultural discount of foreign films as well as attract viewers to the experience of textual appropriation. Narrations of these programs lower cultural discount of foreign films by reconstructing them to comic features. To attract audience, byeonsa and narrator of the programs adopt the comic narration style to strengthen the entertainment value as well as to maintain information value. Indirect interventions of byeonsa and narrators also lower the cultural discount by constructing emotional responses. It is also close to byeonsa’s intervention which enabled viewers to engage in films sympathetically. Narrators use contemporary Korean jargons, vocal mimicry and phrase in vogue to familiarize foreign films to Korean audience. By comparison between byeonsa and the narrators in the programs, researchers intend to understand the dynamic and concrete process of lowering cultural discount in the adoption of foreign culture.
