This study examines the funding structure of Korean film industry and discusses prominent financing types in the current Korean film trend. Funding strategies and sources tend to have great influence on the ways in which films are produced and distributed. How to fund and who is funding are critical conditions for the success of film projects. There are five types to finance films in Korea; in-house production/distribution, co-production agreements/distribution, production-financing & distribution agreements, acquisition deals and rent-a-distributor deals. It is typical that producers lead creative packings and major(investment-distribution) companies are usually in charge of business responsibilities. However major(investment-distribution) companies have become more involved in production as production companies are getting weaker. In order to improve conditions for film productions, we need to find new sources for production and to reinforce support system for films at their development stages.
