Study on the formation of Korean Film Policy: Focusing on promotion film policies of Rhee government

The importance of film policy is increasing as time goes by. Film is not only art but also an industry these days, and the future of Korean film industry depends on what the film policy decides. And the importance of the policy has been only emphasized by the recent controversy around the mismanagement of KOFIC (Korean Film Counsel). The goal of this research is to look at Korean film policy in the context of the nation's history. It is important to look at in what ways the basis of government policies interacted or affected Korean policy, and in the end even defined the Korean film industry itself and culture within. This will enable us to seek the direction of our future policies that affect Korean film. The direction of future policies presupposes the inspection of how effective the policies will be. In addition, some representative film promotion policies' effectiveness will be inspected. This thesis also aims to discuss the role of policy maker needs to play as the nation's sole film promotion mechanism.
