Reading moving image is a process of perceiving it. We are able to approach filmmaker's intension only from the sensory materials of the image. To make sure how we see the image when we watch movies, this paper did experiments with 2 movies, <The Graduate> and <L'Argent, Money>. Eye-tracker, Tobii was used to measure the movements and the fixation lengths of the pupils of 44 subjects. From the results of them, it was verified that people look at moving image in a certain way. The subjects gazed at the main actor first when a new shot is shown. It means that they identify themselves with the camera position and the coordinate of the frame. Next they identify themselves with the actor. We call it the secondary identification process. When the actor saw the off-screen space, subjects gazed toward the direction. But their gazing points were inside the frame, rarely reached out of frame. I thought the first reason is that the length of individual frame is not so long, and normally movies give a new shot to show the off screen area. Second, a frame is composed of lots of visual elements for the audience to see in detail to understand the plot of the movie. Third, we don't need to see out of frame area because we can imagine there without gazing it.
