This study, an analysis of the film M(Myung-se Lee, 2007) from the perspective of Media Studies, attempts to understand the film on the topographic maps of media that has been reorganized by digital technology. Since the age of mechanical reproduction, art has followed the new aesthetic principle of repeatability. And digital technology has changed the principles of image production. Digital compositing has created a new style for film editing by combining repeatability with the free modification of moving images. In the film M, the repetitive use of image(and shots) creates a certain pattern which, despite interfering with the narrative flow, provides a new film-watching experience for the audience. This study interprets the unique style of M as the effect of the new media technology. Repetition and the loop, which is used as a narrative engine, can be seen as traces of remediation in the digital era and as a the strategy of digital narrative. This paper seeks to provide a possibility for a new interpretation of M through the meta-film analysis from the perspective of media studies.
