Tragedy, Criticism, Experiment: three codes to understand Ha Kilchong's films

In this paper, I attempt to examine films of Ha Kilchong. He directed seven feature films and one short film in his life. While the existing evaluations have analyzed his films as two or three stages, I intended to analyze common features through them. In his films, death dosen't mean fate which we cannot defy, but tragic events which let us consider some meaning of that time. A character in his film who cannot help choosing death make us look back on our present life. That is why his films are reality-critical and resistant. In the days when rigid censorship was enforced, director Ha Kilchong made films which criticize our society metaphorically. They also involved new experiment.
