This research dealt with the similarity between <Mouchette> of Robert Bresson and <Rosetta> of Dardenne Brothers. And the similarity shown in the films was clarified into four points. First, there exist characters with alienation and solitude. The surrounding environment of Mouchette and Rosetta resemble each other. They suffer from lack of family members and they hover outside the boundary of society, because they are excluded from the society. Also It is similar for them to choose suicide as the way of being free from the burden of life. Second, there is the independent sounds that are not combined with images. Bresson is famous for the directing style that the images are not combined with sounds. This style is reproduced in the films of Dardenne Brothers too. Especially the sound of running car and wind has independent meaning externally expressing complex psychology and inner landscape of Mouchette and Rosetta. The audience can be aware of the inner landscape of character through the sounds, the inner appearance can not recognizable by eye. The bell sound in the <Mouchette> and gas sound in the <Rosetta> can be interpreted as salvation from the christianity viewpoint. The scenes were expressed using the concentration of sound. Third, there is the expression of limited and scattered space. Bresson and Dardenne Brothers intensively focus on character when making films. So the space is used as the means to emphasize the inner landscape, emotion and psychology of character rather than to independently convey meanings. The audience can approach nearer through the meaning of space. Because in the film, the space only plays the role of place where the character exists regardless of its size - wide or narrow indoor space, the limited and scattered space is shown through camera rather than wide space. This expression of space makes the audience concentrate on the scenes and be identified with the character. Fourth, there is the use of props that reflect the landscape of character. Through the props, the audience became known about the trouble and conflict of character and could predict what they will choose. Because the inner landscape could be recognized through the props. Like these, many similarities between the films of Robert Bresson and Dardenne Brothers could be discovered.
