Joanne K. Rowling is the creator of the most interesting stories among all existing writers. Her novels have been reproduced into films and six of the series have been released from ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’ to ‘Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince.’ Many people are interested in the Harry Potter series because of its well-made storylines and various elements of fun. Ideas give life to films. Ideas are reflected in the structure of stories as well as in the icons of stories. The world says that the Harry Potter series are original and innovative. I have discovered that the Harry Potter series have borrowed its ideas from the oriental stories of heroes and chivalry. The structure of the storylines of the Harry Potter series is founded on that of a typical story of chivalry. The background has been converted from an oriental temple to England and the Hogwarts School, while swordsmanship has been replaced with magic, swords with magic wands, and martial techniques with mop-riding. Harry Potter fights for the revenge of his parents and against Voldemort that aims to dominate the magic world. This is a typical background in oriental novels on chivalry. The fact that Harry Potter is a famous character from the birth is also often found in the stories of chivalry. It is not my intention to downgrade Joanne K. Rowling's creation or achievements. My point is that Korean films have so many potential ideas to create original stories based upon with its proven capacities in filmmaking. We have realized the needs to develop original stories and there are so many potential elements to create stories from in Korea. I hope that we can explore and refine many myths and legends in Korea to create our own stories to share with the world.
