<The DMZ, Bimujang Jidae>(1965) directed by Park Sang Ho and released in December 1965 was a semi-documentary film. This was a fiction film version with the running time of 105 minutes and played the part of supporting role by famous actor and actress. However this film was sent to 13th Asia Film Festival not as a filction film but a non-fiction film. In order to compete as a non-fiction film, some scenes on which famous actor and actress appeared and some fictional scenes for the climax were deleted. As a result, this non-fiction film version became to have the running time of 60 minutes and won the first prize in the field of non-fiction film in 13th AFF. The reason of its genre switch was due to promotion policy that gave quota for importing foreign film to excellent film. This film was seemed to succeed in genre switch by winning prize, but because of that success the company could not receive the quota. Promotion policy excluded non-fiction film and gave the quota only to fiction film. The strategy for genre switch of this film and the failure in getting quota for importing foreign film in compensation for the first prize in the field of non-fiction film in 13th AFF proves indirectly that promotion policy at that period was not helpful to private documentary film makers and this non-consideration of promotion policy for private documentary film makers had led Korean documentary film history until 1970's into under the initiative of the authorities like National Film Production Center.
