A Study on Korean Film Production System in the Multimedia Era

The ultimate goal of this study was to suggest an efficient film and drama production system potentially useful to the field of film and drama production by merging manpower as well media. For this purpose, the researcher theoretically reviewed the past and present conditions of the film and drama production systems in Korea, and thereupon, listened to producers and relevant people and analyzed their opinions. In addition, this study examined the processes of film and drama productions. While the media environment has changed, films and dramas have developed with their production system changed, and now, it is frequently attempted to merge film production with drama production, and in this process, advantages and disadvantages of the two different production systems are being identified to be offset by each other. The starting point for this study was to review past and current conditions of the two different film and drama production systems and thereby, find the differences between them as well as their common points. This study focused on efficient uses of manpower. To this end, the researcher interviewed with past and current film or drama producers, directors, photography and lighting engineers to confirm the differences of video image production system between yesterday and today, while surveying the staff who had experienced both film and drama productions to examine their field experiences of the differences between two genres, the problems perceived by them, and their opinions about the needs for future changes, and thereupon, find the ways to enhance efficiency of film and drama productions. The background for the changes of film and drama production systems in Korea and abroad is the media environment rapidly changing. As new media have emerged to form new technologies and industries, the film and drama making works as contents have had to change into new systems befitting their changed environment. Lastly, it is hoped that this study will conduce to development of more efficient film and drama production systems based on the theoretical researches into changes of video image media.
