As the appearance of personal computer and word processor changes the paradigm of publishing and writing, the wide distribution and popularity of camcorder changes the paradigm of filmmaking. Filmmaking was once thought as special and professional field, but now it is most people's favorite hobby. This interesting process of filmmaking has many educational effect when it is used as lessons in schools. The process of filmmaking can match most of knowhow identified by the Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills of United States. SCANS knowhow is made up of five competencies and a three-part of foundation skills and personal qualities that are needed for solid job performance. These include competencies that are resources, interpersonal skills, information, systems, and technology. The foundation competence requires basic skills, thinking skills, and personal qualities. When a student starts making films, although all can be called as filmmaking, lots of different tasks are involved, and according to the subject of the film, different experience and different approach are needed. Most filmmaking process begins with one simple idea. This simple idea gets developed and spreaded as it goes through brainstorming, research, and discussion. Without some extreme exception, a team is essential in filmmaking. When students compose a team and the team's common goal is filmmaking, communication between team mates are necessary. They have to stand the shortage of fund and poorly equipped production system. They have to find out solutions in various phase of film production. All of these hassle and agony become precious lesson, and even after they graduate, the lesson they get throughout the filmmaking process will stay in them, and work them as lifelong solution finding experience.
