1980's in korea began with the neo-military junta(regime) which came to power through supressing the Kwangju struggle for demonstration. The film industry in 1980's was influenced by the national policy of the neo-military junta. While it did a close inspection on the political issues, it permitted a indecent sexual expression . So many film producing companies in this decade evaded to comment on the socio-political issues & concentrated on showing the actress' naked body to attract the audiences. In a sense it was enevitable to keep on film business under the military regime. It is erotic melo drama and erotic costume drama that was newly born at that time. As we all know, these genres were regarded as a flight from reality and vulgar texts and were not considered as objects of serious studies. But these texts not only have sociological values as reflection on 1980's but also have aesthetic values under the varren film making circumstances. I think the Korean film studies should stop overlooking the significance of these genres and begin serious research and specific analysis of the indivisual text of these genres. The reason why I focus on <Mulberry> among many other films, it it because it inspires popular desire of the day in the connotation level. Of course I know that this movie is not free from condemnation that it commercialized women's sexuality. But it is just one aspect of the movie. It still has enough value to be analyzed seriously. This study is based on the concept of Frederic Jameson's national allegory and Rene Girard's Scapegoat.
