In particular, making too many demands in one homily or calling for changes that are not directly related to the topic can be disengaging. Thomas Long suggests writing a single function statement to describe the change a preacher expects to see in the congregation, Paul Scott Wilson suggests a single mission for a homily, and Andy Stanley and Lane Jones suggest setting a single purpose.
