오늘날 대중음악은 다양한 창법과 각이한 스타일의 가창 형태가 융합되어 발전해 나가고 있다. 크로스오버 현상은 이러한 배경에서 등장하여 창법의 크로스오버, 스타일의 크로스오버, 성별의 크로스오버 등 다양한 형태로 발전하였다. 최근 몇 년간 중국에서는 예능 음악 프로그램에서 다채로운 크로스오버 가창의 무대를 선보여 큰 인기를 얻었다. 가수들은 크로스오버 가창 역량을 바탕으로 각기 다른 스타일의 무대를 통해 화려한 크로스오버 스타일을 보여주었다. 대중음악 가창의 크로스오버는 음악 문화에 깊은 영향을 미쳤을 뿐만 아니라 문화적 가치를 가지고 있다. 즉, 이러한 현상은 음악 문화를 풍부하게 하는 동시에 전통음악을 혁신하고 고전음악을 현대적 기법으로 전승하게 되어 예술의 창조성과 표현 방식을 크게 확대하였다. 아울러 대중음악 가창에서 성악 교육의 수준을 향상시켰다.
