인공지능(AI) 기반 언어 학습 도구 개발 연구

A study on the development of an AI-based English learning tool: Focusing on the university-level EGAP (English for General Academic Purposes)

The study aims to review existing language learning technologies to propose a development for AIbased language learning tool suited for university-level L2 learners of English for general academic purposes (EGAP), which is classified as a category of English for academic purposes (EAP). When it comes to teaching and learning in a remote setting, locating effective and reliable language learning tools or language courseware catering to university-level language learners to advance general education becomes difficult. Therefore, these following items are used as references to blueprint creating new English language learning tools: AI technology, online language learning programs, grammar checkers, sentence analyzers, and online dictionaries from the late 2010s to the present. In the next, the study analyzes the outstanding issues in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) research and Intelligent Computer-Assisted Language Learning (ICALL). It reviews several noticeable improvements in language technology development for understanding the types and limitations of the technology, which is crucial for effective language learning tool design. The conclusion of this research calls for an AI-based EGAP grammar program designed for higher education. The proposed EGAP program is expected to facilitate university-level second language learning and reach broader academic user niches, including the students in the Englishmedium institutions and international schools, or individuals at intermediate through advanced level English for general business.
