A Study on the Political Economy of Institutions and Growth

노스와 애쓰모글루가 대표하는 두 그룹의 연구를 중심으로 제도와 성장의 정치경제학이 발전해 온 과정을 살펴본다. 두 그룹의 연구들이 제시하는 논리와 이 논리들 사이의 연관을 재구성함으로써 두 그룹의 성과와 한계를 이해하고 둘 사이의 생산적인 대화가 제도와 성장 사이의 관계에 대한 이해 발전시키는 데 어떻게 기여했는지 논의한다. 이러한 탐구를 통해 제도와 성장의 정치경제학의 과거와 현재를 이해하고 미래의 연구 방향에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있는 계기를 제공한다.

This paper delves into the evolution of the political economy of institutions and growth, with a specific emphasis on two research strands associated with Douglas C. North and Daron Acemoglu, respectively. By elucidating the underlying rationale of studies conducted by these two groups, I shed light on the productive discourse between them, which has significantly contributed to enhancing our comprehension of the nexus between institutions and growth. Furthermore, I evaluate the accomplishments and constraints of each group. As a result of these investigations, this paper offers an opportunity to grasp both the historical and contemporary landscapes of the political economy of institutions and growth, while also pondering the future trajectory of research in this field.
