이 연구는 미국의 진로기술교육(Career and Technical Education, CTE)에서 K-5에 해당하는 표준을 분석하여 우리나라 초등 기술교육 표준을 구성하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 표준의 구조 와 초등 기술교육에서 다룰 수 있는 교육 내용을 탐구하고자 하였다. 연구에 따른 결과는 다 음과 같다. 첫째, 미국의 6개 주 CTE에서 문제해결, 기술 활용, 발명과 혁신 등 우리나라 초등 기술교 육과 연계된 교육 내용을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 표준의 구조적인 측면에서 보았을 때 모듈화되어 제시되는 위스콘신 CTE의 구조가 새로운 표준을 만드는데 하나의 모델로써 참고할 가치가 있다. 셋째, 교육 내용의 측면에서 보았을 때 두 가지의 특징을 찾을 수 있었다. 먼저 K-5로 이어 지는 교육 내용들에 의미가 있다. 다음으로는 안전, 기술의 영향과 관련된 내용의 포함에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다. 연구의 결과가 우리나라 향후 초등 기술교육 표준 구성에 시사하는 점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 구조적인 측면에서 국가수준 교육과정과의 연계성을 고려한 표준 구조가 필요하다. 둘째, 내용적인 측면에서 다양성을 확보할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 지속적인 변화가 가능한 유연한 표준의 구성이 필요하다.
This study analyzed the Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards for grades K-5 in the United States by exploring their structure and content. The results will inform the development of Korea's elementary technology education standards. The results are as follows. First, six states in the United States have K-5 (or PK-5) CTE standards, with contents related to elementary technology education, such as problem-solving, technology use, invention, and innovation. Second, the modular structure of Wisconsin’s CTE standards is worth considering from a structural standpoint and can serve as a model for creating new standards. Third, two key characteristics were identified regarding the content of the standards. First, CTE standards cover kindergarten through 5th grade, while Korea lacks standards for CTE, or technology education, at the kindergarten level. Second, the CTE standards in the USA include environment, health, safety, and the impact of technology, aspects not given the same level of emphasis in Korea. The results carry several implications. First, Korea should consider developing a common standard structure at the national level to connect curricula across subjects. Second, it is necessary to ensure diversity in the content of elementary level technology education standards in Korea. Third, there is a need to develop flexible standards that can accommodate changes in workforce and society.
