챗GPT의 등장은 인공지능기술의 역사에서 또 한 번의 주요 기술 도약의 계기가 되고 있다. 기존의 인공지능기술이 체스, 바둑, 이미지 제작, 작곡 등 인간만이 할 수 있을 것 으로 여겨지던 여러 영역에서 다양한 성취를 이루어왔다면 드디어 인간 언어를 데이터 세트로 삼는 유형의 인공지능이 도래했기 때문이다. 인간의 사유와 소통의 기반이 언어 라는 점을 감안할 때 챗GPT는 인공지능기술 역사에서 새로운 장을 열었다고 볼 수 있 다. 그렇다면 레이 커즈와일이 예언했던 ‘특이점’의 도래, 즉 초지능의 시대가 열리는 것 일까. 이 글에서는 챗GPT의 특성과 의의를 분석하며 기존 기술과의 차이점에 대해 알아 보고자 한다. 그리고 인공지능의 시대에 인공 우둔함(Artificial Stupidity)을 말하는 히토 슈타이얼과, 프로그램의 한계를 지적하는 빌렘 플루서의 사유를 통해 인공지능과 초지 능 기술에 대해 다른 관점에서 생각해 볼 것이다. 또한 인공지능 시대에 인문학과 우리 가 견지해야 하는 태도에 대해, 인간의 ‘자유 의지’와 ‘자기인식’을 중시하며 신실재론을 전개하는 철학자 마르쿠스 가브리엘의 논의를 통해 알아볼 것이다.
The emergence of ChatGPT marks another major technological leap forward in the history of AI technology. Because a type of artificial intelligence that uses human language as a data set has arrived. Considering that language is the basis of human thought and communication, ChatGPT can be seen as opening a new step in the history of AI technology. In this article, I will analyze the characteristics and meaning of ChatGPT and figure out the differences from existing technologies.
