The purpose of this research is to analysis the effects of the large-scale discount stores on the local distribution structure. Also, through the attitude survey and the actual analysis of local consumers and merchants, the purpose of this research is to minimize the negative aspects, caused by the entering of the large-scale discount stores, and to find the alternative solution for balancing the development of local distribution structure. For the research, the survey was taken in Suwon area, by 100 consumers and 100 merchants. For the actual analysis, SPSS 12.0 statistic program was used. As the result of the research, it is fact that the large-scale discount stores has partial effects on the decrease in sales of the traditional market and medium-sized stores. However, various changes of the market environment, such as the change of consumer's preference and non-store retailing, has more effects on the decrease in sales. In addition to above reasons, it is the result of compositive and mutual actions of the inner problems of the traditional market, such as the deterioration of the facilities, parking lots, old ages of merchants, lack of convenient facilities, lack of marketing ability, etc. For easing the negative effects of the large-scale discount stores, the active role of the large-scale discount stores, the support from the administrative agency and the change of the merchants' awareness are urgently needed. In addition, various prior consideration of the urban planning, through the reconstruction and the redevelopment of the traditional market, is needed to improve the hardware.
