A Study on the Economic Implication and the Desirable Direction of the Broad Economic Network Formation

Recently, there have been many discussions on how to vitalize the local economies by cooperation among regional governments. In fact, the broadened economic zone will increase the potential economic capacities of local economies. In this paper, I summarize and analyze the recent developments and cases of domestic and foreign countries' regional cooperations from the view point of economics. From the reviewing the regional cooperations from the context of economics, I found several problems in the ways of regional cooperations in Korea. First of all, many regional cooperative activities carried out in Korea did not have real outcomes. They were just announcements without real outcome. Second, many projects were not supported by budget and manpower which are necessary to be successful. Finally, in conclusion, this paper suggests that the regional cooperation should be supported by budget and manpower, the regulation abolished or at least mitigated, and the projects should be carried out by the private sector rather than the public sector.
