This study aims to find an effective way for the promotion of regional economy based on the use of local festivals in Korea. Above all, it is necessary to distribute local festivals throughout the year and thereby, extend the tourism season or shorten the off-season period. It should be linking the festivals with the sight-seeing destinations around them or other tourism industries. Local administrations should join hands with citizens for smooth organization of festivals and clear and common themes. Professional man-power should be trained to plan and organize the local festivals to be more attractive. Finally, specific advertisement strategies should be unfolded to activate the local festivals.
