Analysis on the Regional Economic Growth: Focusing on Daegu-Gyeongbuk

본 연구는 행정구역 분리 이후 1985~2017년간의 대구와 경북 시계열자료를 활용하여 지역산업경쟁력 분석과 실증분석을 통해 지역 경제성장에 영향을 미치는 요소들을 분석하였다. 먼저, 지역산업경쟁력 분석을 통해 대구와 경북의 산업 중 지역 경제성장을 견인하는 산업이 시간에 따라 크게 다르다는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 경제환경변화에 따른 차별화된 지역 산업육성이 필요함을 제시하고 있다. 다음으로 패널 VAR 모형을 이용한 충격반응분석 결과 지방재정 정책변수, 금융변수, 특허출원은 지역경제에 양(+)의 효과를 나타내고 있지만, 자본과 주변 지역경제변수 중 특허등록과 경남 GRDP는 음(-)의 효과를 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 특허출원 활동으로 기술진보와 신기술의 확산을 통해 지역 생산성을 높일 수 있도록 신기술 개발을 장려하고, 특허권의 질적 가치를 높이기 위해 기업들은 부가가치와 미래가치가 높은 상품에 투자·개발할 필요가 있다. 또한, 대구경북과 지리적으로 근접한 위치에 있는 경남은 대구경북과 경쟁관계에 있음을 나타내어, 지역만의 성장이 아닌 협력을 통한 지역 성장 극대화 방안을 모색해야 함을 시사한다.

This study analyzed the factors influencing regional economic growth through regional industry competitiveness analysis and empirical analysis using Daegu and Gyeongbuk time series data from 1985 to 2017 after administrative division. Firstly, the analysis of regional industry competitiveness confirmed that the industries that drive regional economic growth among Daegu and Gyeongbuk's industries differ over time. This implies that differentiated development policies for regional industry in accordance with the changes in economic conditions are required. Secondly, the impulse response analysis using the panel VAR model shows that while local fiscal policy variables, financial variables and patent application have a positive effect on the local economy, patent registration and Gyeongnam GRDP, among capital variables and surrounding regional economic variables, have a negative effect. Thus, it is necessary to encourage the development of new technologies to enhance regional productivity through patent application which leads to technological progress and the spread of new technologies, and companies need to invest and develop products with high added value and future value to raise the quality of patent rights. In addition, Gyeongnam located in close proximity to Daegu-Gyeongbuk turns out to have a competitive relationship with Daegu-Gyeongbuk. Thus, we need to find ways to maximize regional growth through inter-regional cooperation rather than regional growth alone.
