A Study on the 6 Domains Analysis of the Aviation English Proficiency

The aim of this paper is to improve English domains (compreh ension, interaction, pronunciation, structure, vocabulary, flue ncy) of the English Proficiency Test for Aviation(EPTA) and th e aviation English education in general. This study deals with the 6 English domain barriers for passing the EPTA based on t he survey with 72 Korean pilots and air traffic controllers in o rder to find out the current air traffic services. The questions of the survey were made under the advices from the profession al pilots who have experienced the EPTA and achieved ICAO 6 rating scale & descriptor including several English education p ilot studies. The conclusion of this study explains that the ne w manuals or education programs for pilots and ATCs are nece ssary to overcome the barriers of 6 English domains and pass t he EPTA successfully. The practical education program of EPT A/ATC for the airline company and aerospace university is hig hly advised in order to prevent the possible accidents due to t he communication problem between pilots and ATCs. It will ul timately contribute to the safety and quality of gobal aviation industry in the future.
