중등학교 영어쓰기교육의 실태분석

A Study on the Current English Writing Education in Secondary Schools

English writing education, as suggested by many studies on English education (Rivers, 1981; Brown, 1994 etc.), plays a very important role in enhancing the effect of the whole English education. However, it was complicated and misguided in each English classroom in Korean secondary schools and the efficient and thorough English writing education was prevented from being employed. In this study, I designed and accomplished questionnaires for secondary-school English teachers, which are to analyze the state of English writing education as well as their understanding about the current situation of English writing education in Korea. Through the analysis of the results of the questionnaires, it was identified that the present conditions of English writing education in Korea have been suffering from not only insufficient educational interests but also poor investments in most areas of concern such as assigned class hours, educational circumstances of the class, appropriate standards for evaluation, and the college entrance examination in comparison to those of the other areas of English learning. More than 88 percent of English teachers in the survey believed that it is necessary to give more attention to English writing education in Korea.
