영소설 텍스트를 활용한 영어교육

English Education through British Novel Text

The shift of the center from reading and writing to speaking and listening is rapidly applied to the current environment of English education under the cause of extension of communicative competences. Therefore several teaching methods and curriculums were studied in various aspects. Although four skills of language – speaking, listening, writing and reading – should be achieved synthetically and organically for practical communication, the emphasis has been on oral communicational competence rather than literal communicative competence. It is certain that applying literary works as materials for English education was neglected naturally. This thesis anglicized the reason why the unbalance was produced and proclaimed that the application of literary works should never be alienated by revisiting the relationship between literary works and English education, and showed the superiority of literary works as materials of English education through some scholars’ perspectives from the viewpoint of 7th English curriculum. Especially, showing the advantages of English education that can be gained by selecting English novels among several literary genres, this thesis suggested it’s theoric background. This thesis also dealt with how the ultimate purpose of English education, the extension of four language skills, can be achieved by using the texts of English novels and suggested the conditions which should be set in advance so that we may make use of the useful materials. In conclusion, this thesis made sure that the literary works have the most right conditions for the purpose of 7th curriculum –the extension of communicative competence the most, expecting the balanced English education by presenting some methods which can be done actually in classes.
